Top Gun's 3 Primary Focus Points for True Self-Defense

1
Awareness & Avoidance
(Most Important Step)
The most important self-defense technique you can ever learn is to spot dangerous situations before they happen and to be smart enough not to be the cause of the issue because of bad decision making. In our classroom we make discussing awareness and avoidance a main part of all of our students' defensive strategy. We don't train for sport. We train for the reality that human character is declining. We strive to inspire our students to be better people and teach them the skills needed to defend themselves and their loved ones.
2
Diffusion Tactics
(When Avoidance is Impossible)
When Awareness and Avoidance fails, our fall back is to train our students in how to actively diffuse situations from a position of strength. We lean towards intelligence and empathy over violence and threats unless totally necessary. When people are confronted with aggression it is rarely by someone that is truly evil. Sometimes bad things happen because of misunderstandings, or you just happened to cross paths with someone who is making bad decisions in reaction to other unfortunate things that may be going on in their lives. Can you keep a cool head and act with love and empathy? We should all strive to control our emotions and show understanding. Be aggressive only as a last resort. Drop the ego and have a cool head.
3
Violence of Action
(Last Resort)
As an LRT Instructor I have learned that when combat becomes a necessary last resort there is only one way to succeed on a consistent basis. This is where Violence of Action comes in. I know that the idea of this will disturb some people, but please understand that we do not train for competition, or for beautiful techniques. That is not Top Gun. We are solely focused on strong moral code and being sure our students actually understand what it takes to win when involved in violent encounters. What exactly is Violence of Action? By definition it is the unrestricted use of speed, strength, surprise and aggression to achieve total dominance against your enemy. This is the Top Gun way, and it isn't for everyone. Let us show you the way.
